Mariama Suwareh is a multifaceted individual, excelling as both an actress and a film producer in the Gambian film industry. Her journey began in her birthplace, and she has dedicated over a decade to her craft. Her exceptional talent, creativity, and ability to interpret roles have made her a sought-after actress and producer.
In December 2015, Mariama Suwareh made history in The Gambia by becoming the country’s youngest female movie producer through her debut film, “God’s Purpose.” This groundbreaking production marked her involvement as a star, director, and producer. The film’s premiere was a resounding success, captivating audiences and garnering widespread media attention.
“Tv s God’s Purpose” is a poignant and emotionally charged narrative that explores the struggles of a young man grappling with the loss of his father and the subsequent challenges he faces under the oppressive influence of his stepmother. The film serves as a powerful commentary on societal issues, shedding light on the emotional turmoil experienced by its protagonist.
The film’s production in The Gambia featured renowned African stars, including Monica Davis, an award-winning Pan-African actress, and Eke Chucku, a Nigerian actor. Additionally, Gambian talents such as Mbaye Bittaye, Sheikh Omar Sawaneh, and Saffiatou Baldeh, the 2014 Miss 22 July Second Runner-up, contributed to the film’s success.
Currently residing in New York, Mariama Suwareh pursued her dreams at the New York Film Academy, where she honed her skills and developed her passion for storytelling. Her aspirations extend beyond her own work, as she envisions establishing her own film production academy in The Gambia to provide a platform for young individuals to showcase their talents and foster their creative pursuits.
In 2019, Mariama Suwareh further showcased her filmmaking prowess with the production of “Love and Hate,” a short film created through the New York Film Academy. This film serves as a poignant exploration of the complex relationship between attendance and performance at the academy, delving into the emotional journey of a young businessman and influencer.
On January 21, 2024, the highly anticipated movie based on a true story premiered at Regal Cinema Times Square 42nd Street. The film follows the personal life of a multi-millionaire business tycoon who becomes entangled in a foreign investor. The premiere was attended by a star-studded red carpet, featuring numerous professional advocates in New York City. The Bronx Borough President, Vanessa L. Gibson, presented the cast members with certificates of recognition. The premiere was a resounding success, with over 200 attendees filling the venue at Regal Cinema. Tickets were sold out, indicating the immense popularity of the film.
